In the ’90s, I decided to find out more about Shiatsu. I followed a beginners’ course and undertook my first year of training with Jurgen Rethmeier in The Hague. During 2003, Shiatsu crossed my path once more. I have since completed my studies at the Dutch School for Classical Shiatsu in The Hague.The starting point for Shiatsu is that everything consists of energy and everything is interconnected. We, as human beings, are part of the world and are therefore constantly influenced by it; this continual push and pull can unbalance us, and although our bodies try continually to restore our equilibrium, if we do not manage to stay in balance, we become unwell or even sick.

Maintaining this balance is the key to maintaining our health. Shiatsu can lend a helping hand with this – not only literally: we can also look for practical ways to improve your health and well-being, so that you gain a greater insight into what works best for you, to help you to make the wisest choice for you in daily situations. The Chinese theory of the Five Elements can open up new perspectives in the search for new solutions.
